Veeck Park, Oak Street Bridge Projects Highlight Quick Village Meeting

Items also included the refurbishment of the elevated sidewalk on First Street downtown and this weekend's Hinsdale Police and Fire Department Open House.

The  Board of Trustees meeting lasted barely more than 20 minutes Tuesday night at Memorial Hall, but trustees touched on several notable items before adjourning to closed session:

  • The Oak Street Bridge Reconstruction Project advisory committee will meet at the Hinsdale Public Library Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. Trustee Laura LaPlaca said a public hearing on the committee' findings is expected to take place within the week or two following the meeting. ()
  • Plans for 's landscaping renovations will be discussed at the next meeting of the village's Environment and Public Services (EPS) Committee meeting on Oct. 17. LaPlaca, who chairs the EPS Committee, said the village is hoping to enter into an agreement with AYSO soccer to share costs for refurbishing athletic fields.
  • John Karstrand, president of the village's Economic Development Commission, said planned improvements to the elevated walkway on the south side of East First Street in downtown Hinsdale that were approved as part of Tuesday's consent agenda will begin immediately. Karstrand said the improvements, which will cost the village $49,467.80, are expected to be completed within three weeks.  
  • Chief Michael Kelly of the reminded residents to turn out for Saturday's Hinsdale Police and Fire Department Open House. The annual fire-education event will take place form 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the fire department.
