State Representative Patricia Bellock (R-Hinsdale), has been named Legislator of the Year by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police.

"Sometimes legislation has a huge impact on law enforcement. Patti's not afraid to ask us before she votes on it and acts on it," said Hinsdale Police Chief Bradley Bloom. "She's a huge ally for us."

Bloom said that Bellock hosts an annual meeting with area law enforcement to talk about relevant issues. He said one issue that law enforcement felt strongly about was medical marijuana.

"We had a strong opinion that they should not allow the legalization of medical marijuana. We told her what our concerns were, and she supported that," said Bloom.

Blooms said that Bellock actively solicits the opinions of law enforcement about pending legislation, and he is happy to hear that she is being recognized for her efforts.

“Representative Bellock was selected by our membership as a result of her support and leadership in dealing with law enforcement issues during the year,” said Chief Pat O’Connor, president, Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police. “Each year, the Illinois Association of Chiefs recognizes those public officials that have demonstrated leadership and support for the efforts of law enforcement within this state. She has been a partner in our joint efforts to serve the citizens of Illinois. Representative Bellock has continued to support those efforts throughout the year in her initiatives and voting record.”

Rep. Bellock and Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno (R- Lemont) will receive their awards at a reception in Springfield on March 30.

“I truly appreciate this award and I am so grateful for all the police departments and police chiefs across our state do to make it safe,” said Rep. Bellock. “I will continue to do all I can in the legislature to support the Illinois police departments.”
