New Hearing on Objections to Planson's District 86 Candidacy Canceled

District says judge will rule on merits of case March 10.

The electoral board meeting for District 86 that was scheduled for Monday has been canceled.

A DuPage County circuit court judge had ordered that on Tuesday the District 86 Electoral Board must meet again regarding objections to Jennifer Planson's candidacy for the school board, according to a Clarendon Hills Doings report.

This is because only two members of the electoral board were present Jan. 6, when the board ruled against objections to Planson's candidacy brought by two Oak Brook residents.

Donald O’Neil and Terrence O’Malley objected to Planson's running for the school board on the grounds that she wrote “Hinsdale District 86” on some of the papers, when she applied to run for the school board, rather than the district’s full title, “Hinsdale Township High School District No. 86.”

O'Neil and O'Malley said that several other school districts in the area use the number 86 in their titles, and this might have confused the people who signed Planson's nomination papers as to which board she was seeking nomination.

Board President Dennis Brennan and board secretary Dee Dee Gorgol ruled against the objections at the Jan. 6 meeting, but board member George Kumis had been delayed at a train station, according to Alan Mullins, attorney for the school board.

According Thursday's announcement from the district, the cancelation was done with the agreement of O’Neil and O’Malley. The district says the meeting will not be rescheduled, and Judge Terence Sheen will rule on the merits of the complaint March 10.
