Illinois Treasurer and Republican gubernatorial candidate Dan Rutherford denied sexual harassment allegations made against him by a former state employee, WGN reported.

The sexual harassment lawsuit was filed by Ed Michalowski, Rutherford's former director of community affairs and marketing. Michalowski alleges that Rutherford grabbed his genitals during an overnight retreat at Rutherford's Pontiac home in 2011, the Sun-Times reported.

The newspaper reported that Michalowski also alleged that in August 2011 Rutherford approached Michalowski in a Springfield bar and said “If you go home with me you can have anything you want in the office.”

Crain's reported that Rutherford held a news conference Jan. 31 stating that an employee was making false allegations against him. Michalowski resigned from Rutherford's office last week.

Fox News reported Feb. 2 that Michalowski is in debt and sought $300,000 from Rutherford. Video of the Fox report is attached to this post.

However, Fox also reported that another source backed up one of Michalowski's claims – that Rutherford pressured state employees to do political work.

@Grandpamike - if labeling people with the pejorative "gay" grants us insight to someone's beliefs, then maybe you can tell us what can learn about the beliefs of someone who labels a whole group of people "Neo-Nazis"?
Gary February 12, 2014 at 02:16 PM
I love debating "reasonable sounding" elitist liberals. They think they are so far above the rest of us that they don't need to exercise any intellectual discipline at all, and they let their hate and venom fly in every direction... while all the time claiming the other guy is filled with hate. If any of you ever catch me being as intellectually lazy as Grandpamike was in those two posts, I hope you call me on it. I never want to look that foolish. Not even in an online debate!

Whether a person is gay or straight shouldn't be anyone's business but their own and whomever they are involved with assuming they aren't a minor, elderly or disabled. The much more serious issue is that grabbing another person's genitals without consent is a crime and under the law in Illinois such person is a sex offender and felon. The concern ought be are the accusations valid, and why did it take so long for them to be reported. When I consider whether I would vote for the individual whether he is straight, gay, or from outer space is meaningless. If he is a sociopath that acts out as a sexual predator that is a completely different matter. Let's stick to what ought matter here. It really is no different that the bible thumpers thinking that abortion or gay marriage ought be a political issue when, it is properly a personal issue that is none of anyone else's business....and it would help if people would remember that the United States does NOT have a national religion.
Grandpamike February 12, 2014 at 02:27 PM
@Gary So, let me get this correct, you are defending the comments of Jim and Dan ? You give yourself away when you say "reasonable sounding elitist liberals", and you are correct, in that, it is impossible to debate someone who believes that they are inferior to the ones mentioned in your retort. No hate or venom just pointing out the obvious mindset of Jim & Dan.
Gary February 12, 2014 at 02:45 PM
@Grandpamike, I'm not defending their comments. I'm forcing you to defend yours. You are uniquely positioned to explain the mindset of someone who calls those who disagree with them "Nazis", so please tell us what we can learn about the beliefs of that kind of person. If you can do that without revealing the underlying hatred and intellectual laziness that usually accompanies that kind of comment, then I'm here to learn.
Gary February 12, 2014 at 03:16 PM
@Gramps - I'll sweeten the deal. I'm a Tea Partier. You can't let the opportunity to crush someone like me go by. According to your world view it should be easy, right?

I see just fine, grandpa Mike and my heart is in the right place. I think if any reasonable person reviewed a battery of psychological tests administered on this site of its many posters they would require psychotropics and therapy. I am not self loathing or a transvestitie or homosexual, but I can make you think i am either and scaire the fuck out of you. LGBT orientations are just that and I look for patterns. Some here refer to me as psychotic, closet self loathing gay person, nazi sympathizer and other not nice lude comments. It is untrue and I take offense to evil scum trying their hand at acting and making sport of ruining lives. The LGBT community is trouble and the subcultures outside Western Europe in the U.S. are destroying America. We have a good idea as to the patterns that define people, look for patterns. If you are a grandpa, Mike, you sure do not carry on as one who has read or seen much. My thinking is that when restrictions are placed on people's who as a group display pathological behavor and gradual lifting occurs when behaviors improve is a good thing. No one can accuse me of being prejudice because I do not like anyone, and for good reason. I am a very nice man, many who pass themselves off as such are really killers, and they all should receive the academy award and many work for psych agencies, law firms, media, intelligence agencies....they will fucking kill over very little. You want to make a friend in life....buy a dog....from CARE..Ha!!! Please, people, do not write me off as inept as I hope to leave this beer hall putch soon....we try to evaluate the individual and subculture A may shockingly posess similar types as B ten, twenty, thirty miles away yet be world's apart, as to the subcultures, but ask yourself why? Try to figure out how a person is wired and how they fit where they fit or would like to fit if at all. I thought I was funny at times.......
Grandpamike February 12, 2014 at 05:06 PM
@Dan Psychobabble aside, my take on your previous diatribe is nothing more than hateful talk, and hopefully not mainstream thinking. You don't like the lifestyle of people who are not like you, fine, but to address an article about an alleged sexual harassment, with a rant of yours, in my opinion, is not warranted. Now, in reference to your last sentence, there are other venues in which to showcase your comedic talents.
Grandpamike February 12, 2014 at 05:19 PM
@Gary Whether or not you belong to the fringe is not my concern, I just re-read Dans diatribe, and as a common, not elitist progressive, it still reads the way I responded. Also, I don't really believe you want an honest discourse, because neither you nor I will change our thinking. So peace be with you, or Shalom, turning out the light.

Grandpa mike: Do you realize I can save the world from itself and you write me off as a bafoon who rants and spews diatribes? Do you not see through the sharades? Freud was noticably correct in his intertwining sex with what moves society. Sex aside, why , for example , do the Scandanaviens seem to get it right in a huge way no matter what people like to do in the privacy of their residences? Why is Illinois a mess? It a success (Scandanavien countries) because they comprehend the human factor....what makes people tick and how to do what is necessary to provide for a stable society. In America cultures change with the blink of an eye and we have cannobolized ourselves in the name of progress. I just call them as I see them....and I am right..and....it costs nothing. My personal issue is with corrupt law enforcement that particularly seek to ruin lives in Cook county precluding Evanston police and a few other locals- at the behest of crooked civilians. If I know what societies need to implement to stabilize themselves than millions know but will not do it. Why? Because in part people stink. What wisdom have you to share? May I interest you in a bowl of fruit in a bath house near Gorky park?

@Z Love that song and both of them.
Grandpamike February 12, 2014 at 07:33 PM
@Dan No, I don't write you off as a buffoon, I see your writings as indicitive of someone suffering from a Psychosis called The God Complex. Thanks, but no thanks on your offer of a bowl of fruit in a bath house near Gorky Park.

Just need to accept people for who they are. If you don't like it person it shouldn't matter what they do in the kitchen or bedroom or what color they are.

z: I don't mind people keeping their private lives private, but dang if the Gay agenda isn't shoved in our face every day. We don't need a parade, they should just go back to biting the pillow.
Jim Court February 12, 2014 at 10:16 PM
Grandpa, I very much live my own life. Yes, heterosexuals may have their own strange proclivities as you call them. We all tend to want to associate with those who share our values, interests, and lifestyles. I do not try to force my beliefs on others but if asked I will clarify them. My deepest concern relates to narcissism wherever it originates although I see it more often in the gay community. The gay parade is but one example. Hollywood is another. There are many examples. It is always more difficult to see both sides of an issue than it is to be more absolutist. People are comfortable with certainty, even if it is wrong. Most people like absolutes. It takes away the discomfort attached to indecision. If as you say we should should not practice it and I would agree. Yet, the intrusive hand of government demands that we do not discriminate. It is human nature to discriminate and have preferences, to make choices. As a person I do not value those who are selfish and self absorbed, those who are narrow minded and overly authoritarian and self righteous. It is not wrong to have preferences.
Mildred February 12, 2014 at 10:24 PM
TY you saying gay people shouldn't be have same liberties as anyone else. Or Do you have a different Agenda.
Mildred February 12, 2014 at 10:34 PM
Jim Parades are held by all groups in the United States not just the Gay Parade with large attendance by the supposed straight community.
Gary February 13, 2014 at 01:33 AM
@Gramps - you called me a Nazi, and then you say it's not your concern. Hmmmm. Strange. You reread dans posts, but have you reread your own? Then you accuse me of being closed minded based on your own assumptions of the kind of person I must be if I am part of the TP, and then go on to use that assumption as the reason we can't possibly have an intelligent discussion. There's a name for people who attach negative stereotypes to large groups of people and then use those stereotypes as a reason to consider their targets as second class citizens, unworthy of participation in society. You seem like a smart guy. Care to put a name on it?
Gary February 13, 2014 at 01:38 AM
Gramps, you ARE exactly the kind of person you accuse me of being, and I AM exactly the kind of person you think you are.
Ty Conderoga February 13, 2014 at 01:44 AM

Gary: I think Grampa Mike fails to understand the complexities of the world outside his microcosm and is not particularly bright on matters of the human condition. There is two sides to a story, it may prove one acted appallingly which defines my interactions with libidinallay based sick filth- they may make lame accusations about me, for the most part. The issue is weather the man who seeks to be governor of Illinois is a sex offender or his accuser is a nearly bankrupt vile lier. The real issue, in my opinion, is that politicians are noticably self serving and do not wish to propose changes that could get Illinois and America back on its feet monitarily and fiscally. At this point I think Mr. Rutherford needs to drop out of the race if he does not submit to a comprehensive lie detector test. His accuser should do the same. I think we have had enough of the criminal shanninagans that define Illinois executive branch on all levels, state, local, federal, including intelligence agencies- they are just better at sneaking around and manipulating.
Dan February 27, 2014 at 03:30 PM
hey rutherford, fat pat quinn is single.
Edward Andrysiak March 05, 2014 at 01:29 PM
Keep this simple. The report says Rutherford invited his subordinate employee, Michalowski, to his Peoria home for "an overnight retreat." That is enough for me! It reflects bad judgement if nothing else, very bad judgement to say the least. No supervisor, with any sense would do that. Enough already...I'm for someone else.
