Kirk Dillard for Governor, Round II: Hinsdale Senator Plans to Run Again

Illinois State Senator Kirk Dillard (R-Hinsdale), who lost the 2010 Illinois gubernatorial Republican primary by just 193 votes to Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington), has said that he plans to announce this summer a second run for governor, the Daily Herald reports.

"I will have an announcement sometime this summer after a look at my children's summer schedule," Dillard told the paper.

The state senator has booked time at Hinsdale City Hall for an event, the paper said.

The crowded Republican field is also expected to include Brady, Treasurer Dan Rutherford, Sen. Matt Murphy (R-Palatine) and business powerhouse Bruce Rauner, according to the Huffington Post. The Herald suggests that Rutherford’s presence could cut into the downstate votes that bolstered Brady to the nomination in 2010.

Brady lost the 2010 general election to Gov. Pat Quinn by only 32,000 votes out of over 3.4 million cast.
