Hinsdale Considering $200,000 to Restore Burlington Park Wall

The plan has been approved by the Administration and Community Affairs Committee and could begin early this spring if approved by the Village Board.

Hinsdale's Administration and Community Affairs Committee has approved a plan to restore the stone wall that runs along Chestnut Street south of Burlington Park at a cost of about $200,000, the Chicago Tribune reports.

According to the paper, the wall, a bit of a Hinsdale landmark, has been taking the stress of weather and motorists alike since being built in the 1930s by unknown builders (perhaps the WPA or CCC); the $200,000 option is the lower-cost choice as an option with a deep foundation would have cost about $350,000.

Economic development director Tim Scott told the paper that the wall "will be curvilinear in shape rather than vertical [and] will move into the (Burlington) park a little" and that the proposed improvement "is a more naturalized approach. We don't have to have that robust foundation."
