Neighbors Irked by Gov. Pat Quinn's Yard of Weeds

Taking care of his front yard is on the governor's "to-do list," says a spokesman.

Gov. Pat Quinn is irritating his Chicago neighbors — but not for his policies or the fact the Illinois economy is in the dumper.

They are mad because his front yard is overrun with weeds and dandelions.

"Footlong dandelions all over," says an unhappy neighbor who sent photographs to Mark Konkol at DNAInfo Chicago. "Worst on the block. … I don't know what's worse, the front yard or the back."

The weed-choked lawn at the governor's West Side house in Galewood sticks out among the trim, well-mowed plots of grass up and down the block.

"Politics aside, there's no getting around the fact that having an unkempt front yard is one of those things that's almost guaranteed to really tick off your neighbors," writes Konkol in a column on DNAInfo.com.

A governor's spokeswoman says taking care of the yard is on Quinn's "to-do list."

I'm sure he can afford a lawn care service - small yard wouldn't cost much or hire a neighbor kid for weekly mowings would even be better - shame on him

As soon as he is out of office, he'll be moved out of Chicago area. Won't feel safe unless he pays for security. The same security that carries GUNS that he doesn't want residents of Illinois to have!

No friends in the neighborhood? When my neighbors are gone on extended vacations and the like...I zip over and cut their grass. But then I like them and value their friendship.

I don't understand why, between the bullets and the drug dealers, nobody had a chance to go over there and pour some grass killer on the lot...

The individuals that worry about weeds should get a life. Weeds are a sign of a non-toxic lawn. Weed free lawns usually have dangerous chemicals applied that run-off into rain sewers and end up in lakes and streams. I'd rather have a lawn that is safe for my grandchildren. Many weeds are edible. This has nothing to do with whether I vote for Quinn,
