Construction began in earnest this morning on Holmes Avenue as the road contractor started to grind the existing asphalt. The intersection at 55th Street was being monitored by CHPD and, in response to traffic blocking the intersection, eastbound left turns from 55th were temporarily prohibited.
There should be less congestion [Wednesday], as the asphalt grinding should be complete and smaller equipment will be utilized. However, we will still restrict left turns from 55th to local traffic only and may again prohibit them entirely if traffic begins to back-up into the intersection. The first few days of a new traffic pattern are always the most difficult for all parties and the Village thanks everyone for their patience.
The ongoing water main project underway in the neighborhood east of Holmes kicked into high gear yesterday as a second pipe installation crew began work. The bulk of the pipe will be in the ground by the middle of next week when the water main contractor's efforts will turn to transferring house services from the old to the new main. This is expected to last for two weeks, until mid-October when the road contractor will take over the project.
