Chase Begins Construction at Darien Heritage Plaza

Darien officials hope to break ground on other Cass Avenue properties this fall for two new commercial buildings.


Construction has begun on Chase’s newest branch on the southeast corner of Cass and 75th Street on the site of the former BP/Amoco Property, the City of Darien announced on its website.

The city purchased old BP lot and at the adjacent Heritage Place on Cass Avenue nearly four years ago. Departing businesses including the former BP and a dry cleaners left behind contaminated ground due to underground gas and dry cleaning fluid.

The Chase site was given a clean bill of health by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. The is now preparing the other property on Cass Avenue between 75th Street and Plainfield road for development.

Shive Hattery is designing the development, which will include two buildings to be constructed on the remainder of the formerly blighted property. The city is finalizing the construction cost and project details.
