Woman Charged With Sending "Disturbing and Harassing" Emails

Other arrests made this week by Hinsdale police include ones for underage possession of alcohol and criminal trespassing.

Disorderly conduct—A Chicago woman was arrested at the on the morning of April 29 after allegedly sending “disturbing and harassing” emails to a Hinsdale man last December.

Mary Catherine Carter, 48, of 1706 W. School St. in Chicago, was charged with harassment by electronic means. The victim, who lives in the 400 block of East 8th Street, filed a report with police Dec. 20 and complained that an unknown person had sent him six harassing emails from Dec. 14 to Dec. 20.

Deputy Chief Mark Wodka said in an email that Carter turned herself in after being notified that she was being charged with a crime. According to Wodka, the victim is 52.

"The emails contained language that was alarming and disturbing in nature, but also constituted harassment," Wodka said in the email. "The exact details cannot be disclosed at this time as the case is pending court prosecution now."

Carter was released to appear in court, according to police.

Unlawful possession of alcohol by minor—An 18-year-old Hinsdale resident was arrested at his home in the 200 block of S. Thurlow Avenue in the early hours of May 2 after he was found to be in possession of alcohol and glass pipe commonly used for smoking marijuana.

Andrew Eaton was charged with unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to police, officers responded to a report at 1:41 a.m. of a bonfire and the use of illegal substances. 

Eaton was released with a court date.

Criminal trespass to motor vehicle—A 26-year-old Hinsdale resident was arrested after he was seen entering and sitting inside an unoccupied car parked on the 100 block of East 58th Street from 12:20 p.m. to 12:44 p.m. on April 29.

Daniel J. Kelly, of 5846 S. Garfield, fled on his bicycle after a male complainant spotted him inside a parked Acura MDX. According to police, Kelly was arrested and charged with criminal trespass to motor vehicle, then was released with a court date.

Nothing has been reported missing from the vehicle, police said.

Criminal damage to property—A 14-year-old Hinsdale juvenile was charged with criminal damage to property after he allegedly carved vulgar words into a table at , 25 E. Hinsdale Ave., on the afternoon of April 20.

The suspect was arrested, ticketed, and released with court information, according to police.

Criminal damage to property—A fence pole and brick were removed from the playground of , 204 S. Grant St., between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on April 29. According to police, garbage and other debris were left littering the area. There are currently no suspects.
