Wang, 40, was charged with endangering the life of a child, ticketed and arrested by officers who responded to a call from an unidentified passer-by saying the child was alone in the car for 20 to 25 minutes.

Deputy Hinsdale Police Chief Kevin Simpson said there are common-sense reasons a child should not be left in a vehicle unattended, including high temperatures and the possibility he or she could get hurt by something inside the vehicle.

"More important is that with all we teach about 'stranger danger,' anybody can approach that car and entice that child to leave the car," Simpson said. "Whether it’s for five minutes or a [longer] period of time, a child of that age is too young to be left alone in a car. Period."

Wang was released on bond with court information.
