Wire Fraud, Leaving the Scene of an Accident Reported by Hinsdale Police

The department also detailed possession of cannabis and deceptive practice cases.

Fraud—A female complainant from the 300 block of West 59th Street reported being the victim of a scam on Jan. 15 in which she was sent a fraudulent check worth $2,969 before wiring the same amount to an unknown suspect via Western Union, according to the .

The 37-year-old victim became acquainted with the unknown suspect via a Craigslist job ad, Deputy Chief Mark Wodka said.

The alleged scam was reported to police on Feb. 16 and the case is currently pending investigation.

Leaving the scene of an accident—Simon Sakalauskas, of 3910 N. Adams St. in Westmont, turned himself in to Hinsdale Police after fleeing from a one-vehicle accident at the Route 83/Ogden Avenue overpass around 11:30 a.m. Feb. 19.

Sakalauskas, 21, abandoned his vehicle after hitting a cement support under the overpass because he did not have a valid driver’s license. He was charged with not having a valid driver’s license, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and leaving the scene of an accident. He was released to appear in court.

Possession of cannabis—A 16-year-old male juvenile from Burr Ridge was charged with possession of cannabis after he was found to be in possession of a substance that tested positive for the drug while at Hinsdale Central High School at 11:41 am. Feb. 17. The suspect was released to a parent.

Deceptive practice—Caffray Jewelers, 14 Grant Sq., lost $75 after attempting to cash a bad check passed by a known suspect on Nov 15. The business reported the issue to police on Feb. 14.
