Counterfeit Cash at Whole Foods, DUI, $1K in Pipe Stolen: Police Blotter

SUNDAY, FEB. 10

DUI Charges for Westmont Man 

Conor E. Brennan, 21, of the 3900 block of North Grant Street, Westmont, was charged with DUI after police said he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during a traffic stop for improper lane use near the intersection of Monroe and 55th streets at 3:39 a.m., and failed an ensuing breath test.

Brennan was charged with two counts of DUI, improper lane use and and improper turn. He was released to appear in court.

Customer Passes Counterfeit Cash

A customer at Whole Foods Market, 500 E. Ogden Ave., unknowingly attempted to pay for groceries with a counterfeit $50 bill at 1:26 p.m., police said.

A Whole Foods employee determined the bill was counterfeit, police said. Before that, the customer did not know the bill was fake. No charges were filed.

SATURDAY, FEB. 9

Commercial Burglary Reported 

Someone took $1,050 worth copper plumbing pipe from Dave Soltwisch Plumbing, Inc., 422 Chestnut St., between 5:30 p.m. Feb. 8 and 5:45 p.m. Feb. 9 without forcing entry to the business, police said.

The five 10-foot pipe sections were located in a storage area of the business. Police said it is believed that a person with authorized access to the building is responsible, but there are no known suspects. Five lengths of pipe were reported stolen on Jan. 20 from the same business .

Police believe the thefts are related.

The case is still under investigation.
