Hundreds of police officers from all over the Chicago area joined efforts to raise money for Special Olympics Friday, including one who might look familiar to Clarendon Hills residents.

Tom Reasoner, who was a police officer in Clarendon Hills for 25 years and police chief for 16, joined the effort as officers across the state camped out on Dunkin' Donuts rooftops from 5 a.m. to around 2 p.m. in their communities.

Reasoner, who is now a deputy director at North East Multi-Regional Training, which provides training to law enforcement personnel throughout the Chicagoland area, said he was happy to spend a few hours on the roof of the Bensenville Dunkin' Donuts on Route 83 in order to help a good cause.

"As we adopted this charity, we found out that working with the athletes was a very rewarding experience. These individuals with intellectual disabilities face challenges far beyond what we face every day," said Reasoner.

The annual "cop on top" fundraiser raises money for Special Olympics in Illinois. Last year, 111 locations across the Chicago area took part in the event, raising $207,000.
