Train-Rider Charged With Stealing $2,600 in Conductor's Personal Items

Clarendon Hills police reports, Nov. 21-26.

MONDAY, NOV. 25

4 Vodka Bottles Stolen

A 16-year-old male juvenile from Woodridge was charged with theft, police said, after he allegedly stole four bottles of Ciroc vodka from Jewel-Osco, 303 Holmes Ave., at around 11 p.m.

An investigation led to the charge after police responded to a report of a male yelling while running out of the bushes outside Jewel into a black Ford Explorer that then traveled southbound on Holmes.

A clerk had seen the juvenile in the liquor section with another male who had put down four Ciroc bottles when the clerk spotted them. Both males fled the store, and the clerk noticed that several bottles were still missing.

The male was cited for violating a local ordinance and was released on bond.

Train Conductor's Bag Snatched

Deandre L. Brown, 40, of the 600 block of King Brook Crossing, Bolingbrook, was charged with felony theft, police said, after he allegedly stole the backpack of a Metra conductor that, including its contents, was valued at $2,640.

The incident was reported by the conductor at 5:52 p.m. He had seen a Metra rider leave the train at the downtown Clarendon Hills stop with a backpack similar to the one the conductor had left in an empty "dead car" while he worked, police said. The conductor checked the car after and found the bag to be missing, at which point he got off the train and returned to the Clarendon Hills stop.

Brown, who appeared to be intoxicated, was still in the area of the train stop when police arrived. He still had the $185 backpack that contained $1,500 in Metra tickets as well as the victim's insulin pen, insulin meter, cell phone, headphones and wallet.

Police charged Brown after questioning him, and he was transported to DuPage County Jail.

Juan Garcia, of the 5200 block of South Wolcott Avenue, Chicago, was charged with driving without a valid license, police said, after a traffic stop near the intersection of Route 83 and 63rd Street at 1:26 a.m.

Garcia was also charged with driving without headlights. He was released on bond.
