Texting Driver Hits Car, Charged with DUI: Police Blotter

Credit Card Snatched

An employee of Yankee Peddler in the 10 block of East 1st Street reported that her credit card was taken from her purse while she was helping customers between 4:20 p.m. and 4:40 p.m., police said.

The credit card was used later in the day at a Chicago-area retail store to make an unauthorized purchase, police said. The case is under investigation.

FRIDAY, JAN. 11

Hinsdale Woman Charged with DUI After Accident

Siobhan Lawler, 22, of the 300 block of Hampton Place, Hinsdale, was charged with DUI after she struck an occupied parked vehicle in the 200 block of East Walnut Street at 9:29 p.m., police said. A responding officer said she was under the influence of alcohol and failed an ensuing breath test.

The occupant of the struck vehicle was transported to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital with minor injuries. In addition to DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, Lawler was charged with unlawful use of electronic communication device after police said she was texting while driving before the accident.

She was released to appear in court.
