An unknown person punched a Hinsdale Central student in the face outside the high school after Friday night’s Hinsdale Central-Lyons Township boys basketball game, police said.

The incident occurred in the student parking lot east of the school between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Deputy chief Mark Wodka of the Hinsdale Police Department said the offender was a male and is believed to be a Lyons Township supporter.

The punch was thrown after the offender was chanted at by individuals the 18-year-old victim was with.

“The battery occurred following verbal chants that were taunting in nature,” Wodka said.

The case is currently pending.
