Police Report Underage Drinking and Driving, Disorderly Vacuuming

Three thefts were also among recent offenses in Hinsdale.

Zero tolerance—John R. Lyons, of 11 E. North St. in Hinsdale, and Christine K. Piekos, of 610 Woodside Ave. in Hinsdale, were charged with alcohol-related offenses after officers of the observed the 20-year-old Lyons and 19-year-old Piekos to be under the influence of alcohol during a speeding stop at 3:42 a.m. Dec. 23 in the 100 block of Princeton Road. Lyons was the driver and Piekos a passenger.

Before the traffic stop, patrolling officers witnessed the vehicle driving suspiciously in the Woodlands neighborhood before “abruptly” speeding from the area.

Lyons was charged with zero tolerance, failure to wear a seatbelt, and speeding. Piekos was charged with unlawful use of alcohol. The two suspects were released to appear in court.

“Zero Tolerance is an administrative process of suspension of driver’s license for operating a vehicle while under the age of 21 and under the influence of alcohol of any amount,” Hinsdale Police Deputy Chief Mark Wodka said in an email.

Wodka said there was no probable cause to establish that Lyons’ blood-alcohol content was above .08, which could have led to a DUI charge.

Disorderly conduct—A female complainant reported to police that a male neighbor in her condo complex in the 300 block of Claymoor was using a vacuum in the building’s common hallway at 10:20 p.m. Dec. 20 and alleged that the neighbor struck the victim’s foot with the vacuum when cleaning near her doorway.

There have been no charges filed and the case is pending.

Theft—A female victim reported that her wallet was taken from her purse during a Dec. 23 visit to ManorCare, 600 W. Ogden Ave.

The purse was left unattended at the time it was taken. The black Coach wallet was worth $300 and contained the victim’s driver’s license, several gift cards, a debit card, and $40 cash.

Bicycle theft—An unknown suspect took a Giant boys bicycle while the bike was left unlocked in Stough Park between Dec. 18 and Dec. 20. The bike is worth approximately $300.

Possession of cannabis—A 16-year-old female juvenile from Hinsdale was arrested at 10:06 p.m. Dec. 21 after Hinsdale Police observed the suspect to be under the influence of alcohol and in possession of a substance that tested positive for cannabis during a traffic stop in a seat-belt enforcement zone in the 700 block of South Madison Street.

The suspect was a passenger in the vehicle and was seen not wearing a seatbelt, prompting the stop. The suspect allegedly resisted arrest. She was charged with possession of cannabis, unlawful use of alcohol by a minor, resisting a police officer, and not wearing a seatbelt. She was released to a parent.

Telephone harassment—A known suspect allegedly made threatening calls to a male victim from the 700 block of North County Line Road trying to seek money at 8 p.m. Dec. 20.

Criminal damage to property—A female victim reported to Hinsdale Police that the rear tire of her Kia Sorento was slashed while the vehicle was parked in the parking garage of a condo complex in the 300 block of Claymoor between Dec. 13 and Dec. 19.

Theft—A female victim reported to police that her wallet was taken from her purse during a visit to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, 120 N. Oak St., between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Dec. 19.
