Police Report Six DUI, 39 Seatbelt Citations During Memorial Day Crackdown

In an effort to save lives and reduce serious injuries, the Hinsdale Police Department, along with thousands of law enforcement agencies across the country, participated inan enforcement initiative to crackdown on drunk and unbelted drivers.

During the aggressive enforcement period that ran from May 11 through May 28, 39 citations were issued for failing to wear safety belts, 26 citations were issued for speeding, six citations were issued for driving under the influence (DUI), two citations were issued for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, one citation was issued for a child passenger safety violation and 39 citations were issued for other Illinois Vehicle Code violations.

The Hinsdale Police Department received a state grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation to participate in this effort. Grant funding allows the police department to assign additional officers for dedicated enforcement of the seat belt, driving under the influence, and speed laws.
