Hinsdale police reports, Nov. 27-Dec. 7

Responding to a report of a car crashing into a tree late Friday night, Hinsdale Police said they arrested two women and charged them with DUI.

Witnesses said they saw Bethany Halperin, 36, of Hinsdale, driving the vehicle when it struck a tree near the intersection of North Street and Bruner Place at 10:51 p.m., according to the police report. Witnesses told police a passenger in the car, Roxanne Wallace, 22, of Westmont, then got behind the wheel and drove the vehicle into a nearby residential driveway, the report said. The officer responding to the crash observed both women under the influence of alcohol, according to police. Wallace submitted a breath sample that was more than the legal blood-alcohol limit of .08 and was arrested at the scene, police said. She was charged with DUI and released on a promise to appear at a later court date.

Police arrested Halperin at the scene and charged her with driving while her license was suspended for a previous DUI. After obtaining a search warrant, police took her to Hinsdale Hospital for a blood test to determine blood alcohol content. She was charged with DUI and failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash. Police said additional charges are pending lab results.
