Man Pleads Guilty in Woodridge Meth Conspiracy Case: Court Watch

The following are recent developments in notable DuPage County court cases:

Glen Ellyn—When former firefighter David Garmoe returns to court Nov. 16 in his theft case, it could be to finalize a plea. Courtrecords show Garmoe's attorney and prosecutors met with the judge to discuss plea negotiations during an Oct. 26 hearing. Garmoe, the former treasurer of the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company, has pleaded not guilty to stealing $260,000 from the organization. If a deal, which would most likely involve restitution, cannot be reached, the case is expected to be scheduled for a trial date, records state.

Lisle/Naperville—Ladislav Fromelius, the former Naperville man who pleaded guilty to soliciting an undercover police officer to attack a person in an estate dispute, was sentenced Oct. 29 to six months in jail and two years of probation for his conviction. Fromelius was arrested in 2010 after a Lisle police investigation, which included Fromelius paying the officer $2,000 to beat up the executor of an estate to which he was a beneficiary. Fromelius, pleaded guilty in September to solicitation of armed violence in a deal with prosecutors, who dropped several other counts. Fromelius was ordered to pay $1,000 to an anti-crime fund, $860 in court costs and was placed on GPS monitoring. He is now living in Aurora with family, records show.

Wheaton—A man charged with damaging the Wheaton Public Library has pleaded guilty. Erik Oppenhagen was arrested in late August after he broke a window to enter the library to retrieve a bag, police said at the time. He pleaded guilty on Oct. 26 to one count of criminal damage to state-supported property. He was given 180 days in DuPage County Jail and placed on two years of probation. He will also have to pay $604 in restitution to the library, as well as $607 incourt costs. Oppenhagen was also ordered to stay away from the library, records state. Oppenhagen reportedly told police he had been drinking before using a rock to break a library window.

Woodridge—The third, and final, man charged earlier this year in connection to a methamphetamine conspiracy has pleaded guilty. Jeffrey Drobilek pleaded guilty to possession of a meth precursor in a deal with prosecutors. He was sentence to 180 days in DuPage County Jail and two years of probation. He will also have to pay nearly $3,000 incourt costs. Drobilek and two other men, Michael Dehlinger and John Stark, were arrested in May after police found a small meth lab in Dehlinger's Woodridge apartment. Stark admitted to one count of manufacturing meth, and was sentenced to seven years in prison. Dehlinger's agreement with prosecutors included similar sentencing as Drobilek, who was described as conspiring with Stark, records state.
