Hinsdale Woman Loses $2,500 in Wire Fraud Case

One bike and two tanks of gas are among other thefts recently reported to the Hinsdale Police Department.

Fraud—An unknown suspect posed as a Hinsdale woman’s grandson in order to bilk her out of $2,526 on June 29 according to the .

The female victim, of the 1400 block of Burr Oak Road, received a call from someone claiming to be her grandson who said he needed $2,400 to bail out of jail. When the victim wired the money, she realized it was being wired to Spain and alerted police.

The total loss, according to police, is for $2,526. The case is currently under investigation.

Theft—An unknown suspect took a $1,000 bicycle that was locked to the bike rack near the train depot and the intersection of Hinsdale Avenue and Washington Street between 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. July 1.

Theft—A gas station employee reported to Hinsdale Police that a male suspect in a large pick-up truck filled up his vehicle with $59.29 worth of gas at Mobil, 8 W. Chicago Ave., then drove off without paying at 9:54 p.m. June 23.

Theft—At the same Mobil gas station on June 28 at 6:36 p.m.,  a male driver of a white Jeep filled his vehicle up with $62.17 worth of gas and left without paying.
