Hinsdale Police Urge Residents to Check Flatware, Jewelry After Burglary Arrest

Kenneth Jackson, who was arrested in Hinsdale Friday and charged with a past burglary in Burr Ridge, was in possession of valuables when arrested that might have been taken from an area home.

After an Oak Lawn man was arrested in Hinsdale and charged with a past burglary in Burr Ridge, the Hinsdale Police Department is urging Hinsdale residents to check their homes for any missing silver flatware or jewelry, items that were found in the alleged burglar’s possession when he was taken into custody.

Kenneth Jackson, 53, whose last known address is in the 9800 block of south Keeler Avenue, Oak Lawn, was taken into custody at 3:45 a.m. Friday near the intersection of 57th and Elm streets in Hinsdale, where he was located on foot after being under police surveillance as a suspect in earlier area burglaries.

When he was arrested, Jackson was in possession of silver flatware and jewelry that police say might have been stolen from a home in the 57th and Elm area just before his arrest.

“We’re issuing community notices to residents that are within several blocks of there,” Hinsdale Deputy Chief Mark Wodka said.

Wodka said police are working somewhat backwards on this particular case. Typically, a victim reports a burglary before a suspect is identified. With Jackson already charged by Burr Ridge, there is a suspect, but so far no victims.

“The victim my not be aware of it at this point,” Wodka said.

The deputy chief said the silver flatware found on Jackson appears to be for special occasions such as holidays.

Anyone with any information should contact the Hinsdale Police Department by calling 630-789-7070.

A warranted search of Jackson’s home after his arrest turned up evidence from a May 22 burglary in the 0-10 block of Shiloh Court in Burr Ridge, where a money clip and watch went missing after the home was entered via an unlocked patio door.

As of now, Wodka said, Jackson is not charged with any offenses in Hinsdale, but that could change if a victim comes forward.
