Volunteer Block Watch program provides first clue from resident's home security video of of car burglary suspect, police say.

The Hinsdale Police Department's new block watch program utilizing residents' home security camerd systems already appears to be achieving its goal as a critical crime fighting tool.

A resident submitted to police a 16-second video taken by the resident's home security camera in the 200 block of Justine Avenue the evening of April 7. The video shows a man who appears to be peering into a car, according to the Hinsdale Police Facebook page.

About 25 DVDs were stolen from the vehicle in the video. A briefcase, laptop and personal documents were stolen from unlocked vehicle in the 600 block of Woodside Avenue also during the overnight hours of April 7, Hinsdale Deputy Police Chief Mark Wodka told Suburban Life.

Police were able to acquire the video from the resident, because they registered their home security camera with the Block Watch program, police told the paper.

They're asking other residents to check their home systems to see if they can provide another possible image of the alleged burglar from the night of April 7.
If you have information on the man in the video, please contact Hinsdale Police at 630-789-7080.
