Hinsdale Police Announce Fifth Drug Take-Back Day

Once again, the Department will collect and dispose of any unwanted or expired meds. The upcoming date is April 27.

The Hinsdale Police Department announced last Monday that it will be holdingits fifth National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, a program in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration, that has become increasingly popular in local communities over the past few years.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, the Department will be collecting any unwanted or expired prescription meds for destruction at its headquarters (121 Symonds Drive, Hinsdale).

Any type of (legal) pills and capsules are accepted, and the process is anonymous—no questions asked. Liquids, injectibles and syringes, however, cannot be taken. To dispose of meds in their original container, contributors are requested to remove any information from the label.

"Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States are increasing at alarming rates, asare the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs," read a Hinsdale Police Department press release.

"Many people do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine, often flushing them downthe toilet or throwing them away: both potential safety and health hazards."
