Hinsdale Home Burglarized While Owners on Vacation: Police Blotter

Hinsdale police reports, Jan. 1-7.

SATURDAY, JAN. 5

2nd Street Home Burglarized

Someone burglarized a home in the 100 block of West 2nd Street while the homeowners were away on vacation between 1 p.m. Dec. 27 and 12 p.m. Jan. 4, police said.

According to the police report, a family member of the homeowner checking on the home during the above time period noticed that an exterior window was ajar and, upon entering the home, saw that the master bedroom had been ransacked.

The homeowner has since returned. Police said boxes of jewelry were kept in the master bedroom, but a list of missing items has not been submitted to police by the homeowner. The case, which was reported on Jan. 5, is under investigation.

FRIDAY, JAN. 4

Burglar Scared Off

Police believe someone attempted to break into a home in the 800 block of South Bruner Street at 7:34 p.m. Jan. 4, but was scared off by an activated burglar alarm.

Entry to the home was not made and nothing appears to be missing, police said, but there were pry marks found on the back door.

Deputy Chief Mark Wodka said residents often do not activate alarm systems because of complacency or because they don’t like the nuisance of false alarms. However, he said, the police department encourages residents to always activate burglar alarm systems when away from home.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 2

Vacant Home Damaged

Someone entered a vacant home for sale in the 500 block of Ravine Road, damaged a section of drywall inside and left several empty beer cans some time between 12:30 p.m. Dec. 29 and 3:50 p.m. Jan. 2, police said.

The damage was estimated at $100.
