'Helpful' Store Employee Charged With Theft

Brookfield woman charged after money is discovered missing from recovered purse, cops say.


A store employee was charged with theft after a woman reported losing her purse while shopping, reports said.

Hinsdale Police were summoned to Whole Foods at 500 E. Ogden Ave., where a woman reported losing her purse while shopping around 2:55 p.m. March 23.

The store employee told the woman she found her purse and gave it back to her, police said.

When the woman reported money missing from her purse, police said, they arrested the employee.

Police charged Mary E. Ciancanelli, 64, of the 3400 block of Grand Blvd., in Brookfield, with them. She has an upcoming court hearing.
