Fire Department Mourns Loss of Deputy Fire Chief

Deputy Chief Mark Johnson died while on duty Monday.

Hinsdale Deputy Fire Chief Mark Johnson died suddenly while on duty Monday. According to the U.S. Fire Administration, Johnson responded to an emergency medical call on Monday afternoon. After returning to the station, he suddenly collapsed during physical training at around 4:30 p.m. He was treated by department paramedics and other medical personnel. Johnson is a 24-year veteran of the Hinsdale Fire Department, who was recently promoted to deputy chief in 2008.

Funeral arrangements are being made through Gibbons Elliston Funeral Home in Hinsdale. Those wishing to contribute to a memorial fund for Deputy Chief Johnson can send donations in honor of Deputy Chief Mark Johnson to the Hinsdale Fire Department at 121 Symonds Drive, Hinsdale, IL 60521.
