FBI Commends DuPage Investigator for Work on Clarendon Hills Gun Theft

Cheryl York of the state's attorney's office was part of a joint investigation with the FBI that eventually led to the arrest and conviction of Clarendon Hills police officer Daniel Ryan for stealing six guns from his department's evidence room.

A DuPage County State's Attorney investigator was honored by the FBI for her contributions to the investigation of a series of gun thefts from the Clarendon Hills Police Department's evidence room.

Cheryl York was officially commended by the FBI during a private ceremony Wednesday at the state's attorney's office, according to a release from spokesman Paul Darrah. The release says the FBI cited York's "dedication and contributions to a joint law enforcement operation carried out in cooperation with the FBI."

The investigation led to , who was charged on May 13, 2011, with two counts of aggravated possession of a stolen firearm, five counts of unlawful possession of a stolen firearm, one count of theft, and three counts of official misconduct.

"The success of this public corruption investigation would not have been possible without Senior Investigator York’s knowledge, professionalism and dedication,” FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert D. Grant said in the state's attorney release.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin also commended York's work.

"For nearly two decades, Cheryl has demonstrated the dedication, professionalism and commitment that have become the hallmark of the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office,” Berlin said in the release. "She is a top notch investigator and we are very lucky to have her on our team. ... It is very gratifying for me to see her work recognized by her peers."

Approximately 100 coworkers attended the award ceremony.
