DUI, Cold Medicine Thief, Raccoon in Chimney: Police Blotter

Correction: The first item previously read that a person at the business in the 30 block of South Prospect Avenue was victimized by credit card fraud. The victim was an employee of the business and the fraud was in no way connected to the business itself. Patch apologizes for initially leaving out that information and for any misunderstanding. 

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 16

Credit Card Fraud

An employee of a business in the 30 block of South Prospect Avenue reported to police at 9:34 a.m. that she believed her credit card information was used fraudulently to make online purchases in Florida, police said. An official police report was not filed.

TUESDAY, JAN. 15

House Key Goes Missing

A complainant from the 0-100 block of Blodgett Avenue reported at 10:03 a.m. that she left her key ring at Infiniti of Clarendon Hills-Westmont overnight while she test-drove a vehicle, and her house key was missing when she returned the vehicle and picked up her key ring in the morning, according to reports.

Reports say the complainant changed the locks on her house and brought the $120 bill to the dealership with the expectation it would pay. Police said it's a civil matter.

MONDAY, JAN. 14

Driver Caught with Revoked License

Clinton E. Ellis, 43, of the 600 block of East Cass Street, Joliet, was charged with driving with a revoked license and speeding after a traffic stop near the intersection of 55th and Quincy streets at 10:39 a.m., police said. He was released to appear in court.

Screen Door Kicked In

A resident in the 300 block of 55th Street reported at 4:34 p.m. that someone kicked in part of the home's screen door after knocking at the door and receiving no answer, police said. The case is under investigation.

SUNDAY, JAN. 13

DUI Charge for Clarendon Hills Man

Alfred Milano, 27, of the 300 block of West 55th Street, Clarendon Hills, was charged with DUI after he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during a speeding stop near the intersection of Western Avenue and 56th Street at 1:27 a.m., and failed an ensuing breath test, police said. He was released to appear in court. 

Cold Medicine Thief Caught in Act

A man in a black trench coat filled a backpack with over-the-counter cold medicine at Jewel-Osco, 303 Holmes Ave., at 7:57 a.m., then fled the scene after employees confronted him, police said. He left the backpack and the medicine, so the store suffered no dollar loss. 

Raccoon in Chimney

A resident from the 100 block of Hiawatha Drive reported a 30-pound raccoon in his or her home's chimney at 5:03 p.m., police said. The resident started a fire in the fireplace, which police said forced the raccoon to flee out the top of the chimney. Police advised the resident to contact a pest control company.
