CHPD Reports Another Ruse-entry Burglary Attempt

The has received several reports of potential ruse-entry burglaries and warns residents to beware of the scam.

This week, a Clarendon Hills resident reported to the village that two men in a black pickup truck attempted to sell roof repairs with the resident. The men claimed they had done work at the home before and tried to get the residents to follow them outside but the residents refused. The two men match the description of the ruse burglary suspects from March.

In March, and asked if they could take some measurements in her yard along the property line. The driver exited the vehicle and asked the victim to accompany him to her back yard. While the driver distracted the victim, the passenger made entry to the unlocked front door of the house and stole property. The victim reported the truck did not have a front plate and was unsure if it had a rear plate.   

This type of burglary is not unique to Clarendon Hills and occurs more frequently as the weather gets nicer. Many of these burglars pose as construction or maintenance worker offering to do some form of home repair or pose as public works or utility employees checking water or electrical service. The Clarendon Hills Police Department is reminding residents to be wary of these circumstances. If you have not arranged for work to be done at your home or the worker does not have a utility company or Clarendon Hills Public Works ID card, be suspicious. To verify Clarendon Hills Public Works activity at any time of day, call 630-323-2151.  If you suspect that you are being targeted, call 911.
