Battery by Process Server, $5,000 Forgery Reported by Hinsdale Police

Editor's Note: On June 21, Donna Grote of Hinsdale was found to be not guilty of DUI in DuPage County court, according to the state's attorney's office. 

Battery—A victim from the 600 block of The Lane reported that an unknown civil process server punched the 68-year-old male victim in the chest while serving a civil court document at 1:15 p.m. Jan. 29, according to the .

The police report says the contact was allegedly “unlawful” and of “an insulting or provoking nature.” Deputy Chief Mark Wodka said no altercation led up to the incident. The case is pending investigation.

Wodka said he expects the department will make progress on identifying the suspect because he works for a private company that is contracted to serve legal papers.

Forgery—A female victim from the 600 block of South Quincy Street reported to Hinsdale Police that an unknown suspect used fraudulent checks containing the victim’s bank information to make two purchases worth a combined $5,178.63 between Jan. 13 and Jan. 15.

The victim reported the fraudulent purchases on Jan. 23.

Attempted residential burglary—A resident in the 300 block of Spring Lake Avenue reported to Hinsdale Police on Jan. 28 that she found pry marks on the front door and door jam of her home after realizing the door was not closing properly.

The door remain locked, the resident told police, and no entry was gained to the home. The attempted break-in is believed to have occurred between 7 p.m. Jan. 25 and 7 p.m. Jan. 26.

DUI—Donna A. Grote, of 936 S. Quincy Street in Hinsdale, was charged with DUI after police observed her to be under the influence when responding to a report of reckless driving in the 100 block of East Ogden Avenue at 4:10 p.m. Jan. 18.

A witness reported Grote’s alleged reckless driving. The 49-year-old was allegedly driving at a high rate of speed and struck a curb. She refused to submit to a breath test and was released to appear in court.

On June 21, Grote was found not guilty of DUI in DuPage County court, according to the state's attorney's office.

Possession of cannabis—Nicholas A. Gonzalez, of 5210 S. Narragansett Ave. in Chicago, was found to be in possession of a substance that tested positive for cannabis when he was taken into custody for driving with a suspended driver’s license after an illegal-turn traffic stop near Garfield Avenue and Symonds Drive at 12:36 a.m. Jan. 26. 

Gonzalez, 60, was charged with possession of cannabis, driving while his license was suspended, improper turn, and driving an uninsured vehicle. He was released to appear in court.

Theft—A student athlete from Downers Grove North High School reported that an unknown suspect took his $200 cell phone from the visitors’ locker room at Hinsdale Central High School during a varsity boys basketball game on Jan. 28 between 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
