Banned Jewel-Osco Shoplifter Charged with Criminal Trespassing

Identity theft and escaped chickens were also among items reported to the Clarendon Hills Police Department during the last week.

Criminal trespassing—Martinez Butler, of 5610 Forest Hill Dr. in Clarendon Hills, was charged with criminal trespassing Dec. 12 after he was seen at Jewel-Osco for the third time since being caught shoplifting at the store Nov. 29, according to the .

Butler, 48, was charged on Dec. 5 with stealing from the grocery store a Chicago Bears jacket, a Chicago Bears jersey, and a single beer worth a combined $89. He was banned from the store, but returned on Dec. 7, Dec. 8 and Dec. 11 to warnings from police.

He returned again on Dec. 12, when police followed through and charged Butler with violating a local ordinance for trespassing.

Identity theft—An unauthorized $3,800 withdrawal was made from the Chase account of a victim from the 500 block of Carlysle Dr. in Clarendon Hills on Dec. 12 after her wallet was taken during a trip to Chicago in late November. The wallet contained credit and debit cards. 

The victim's account was frozen after the withdrawal was made. Because the theft took place in Chicago, the Clarendon Hills Police Department is not investigating.

Neighborhood trouble—Four chickens, one goose, and one rooster escaped the backyard of a home in the 400 block of Naperville Road at 2:32 p.m. Dec. 8 and wandered into the yard of a neighbor on the same block.

Responding officers unsuccessfully tried to alert the owner of the animals that they were loose. The incident occurred the day after the same rooster was the cause of a neighbors' noise complaint.
