Another Vehicle Crashes into Building on Washington Street

It is the third time in the last five weeks that such an incident has taken place in the 100 block of South Washington Street in downtown Hinsdale.

Not again.

An SUV jumped the curb Monday and crashed into the former Zak's Place space at 112 S. Washington, the third such car-on-building crash in the 100 block of South Washington that has taken place in the last five weeks.

The crash took place at 11:37 a.m. Monday, after the 61-year-old Clarendon Hills woman driving the 2007 Mercedes ML500 hit the accelarator instead of the brake while pulling into a parking stall in front of the property, Deputy Chief Mark Wodka said.

On Feb. 21 and Feb. 23, vehicles were driven into Steinway Piano Gallery at 120 S. Washington.

Hinsdale Police Chief Brad Bloom told the Village of Hinsdale Zoning and Public Safety (ZPS) Committee last week that, after the February incidents, vehicles had been driven into buildings on the 100 block of South Washington eight times since 2001.

Monday's incident, of course, would make that nine.

According to Bloom, each of the eight previous cases were due to driver error, The Doings reported.
