Afternoon Vehicle Burglary Occurs in Post Office Lot

Hit and run and criminal damage to property are among the recent offenses reported by Clarendon Hills Police.

The following items were taken from the blotter:

Burglary to motor vehicle—An unoccupied vehicle parked in the post office parking lot in the 300 block of Park Avenue was broken into by an unknown suspect the afternoon of Dec. 30. Approximately $600 worth of property was stolen.

The burglar broke in through the front passenger-side window of the vehicle, a white Nissan, and stole a purse that contained $300 cash, several forms of identification, a cell phone, and a set of keys. There were no witnesses, Detective Ed Leinweber said.

Hit and run—Nancy J. Williams, of 342 55th St. in Clarendon Hills, was cited after abandoning her vehicle following a one-car crash that damaged a parkway tree and a speed limit sign near Walker and Park avenues at 3 a.m. Jan. 1. Williams allegedly left the car with its tire dug into the parkway.

Williams, 44, was charged with leaving the scene of a crash and failure to give information to the police.

Criminal damage to property—A victim from the 500 block of Chase Drive reported on Dec. 29 that an unknown suspect vandalized with spray paint the rear tailgate of their SUV at an unknown time and date. 

The victim discovered at the same time that the front driver-side tire was flat, though there was no obvious sign of puncture, Leinweber said.
