$7,600 Worth of Jewelry Missing from Hinsdale Home

Wire fraud and DUI are among the offenses recently reported by the Hinsdale Police Department.

Theft—Three pieces of jewelry worth a combined $7,600 were reported missing by a victim in the 800 block of South Adams Street on May 11. The victim believes they were taken between Dec. 15 and May 8, when there were numerous maintenance contractors who had authorized access to the home, according to the .

The jewelry had been stored in a jewelry box in the victim’s bedroom.

Fraud—A victim from the 700 block of Taft Road lost $4,000 to an alleged wire fraud scam after responding to an email that appeared to be from a friend and asked for money to help with an emergency at 5 a.m. May 14.

The email said that the friend had lost her bag and her passport and was in need of money. It directed the victim to send money to Swansea, Wales. The victim wired $2,000 to the unknown suspect two separate times.

DUI—Ted E. Catalan, of 606 Preston Dr. #606 in Bolingbrook, was charged with DUI after he was observed to be under the influence of alcohol during a traffic stop for driving on a blown tire on Route 83 near Ogden Avenue at 3:45 a.m. May 13, and failed an ensuing breath test.

Catalan, 24, was charged with DUI and unsafe use of tire. He was released to appear in court.

Criminal damage to vehicle—An unknown suspect shattered a rear window of a vehicle parked in the 10 block of South Bruner Street between 9 p.m. May 10 and 7:55 a.m. May 11.

The damage is estimated to be worth $350.
