6 DUIs, 41 Seat Belt Citations Handed Out During Holiday Crackdown

The following is a release from the Hinsdale Police Department:

In an effort to save lives and reduce serious injuries, the Hinsdale Police Department, along with thousands of law enforcement agencies across the country, participated in an enforcement initiative to crackdown on drunk and unbelted drivers. 

During the aggressive enforcement period that ran from Dec. 17 through Jan. 1, six motorists were arrested for DUI, 41 were issued citations for failing to wear their safety belts, 18 were cited for speeding, two were arrested for driving on a suspended or revoked license, two were cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, two were cited for other alcohol-related offenses, and 38 citations were issued to motorists for other Illinois Vehicle Code violations.

The Hinsdale Police Department received a state grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation to participate in this effort.  Grant funding allows the police department to assign additional officers for dedicated enforcement of the seat belt, driving under the influence and speed laws.
