$5,800 Stolen From Illegally Closed Bank Account: Police Blotter

Hinsdale police reports, Nov. 27-Dec. 3.

FRIDAY, NOV. 30

Bank Account Fraudulently Closed

Police say a person fraudulently closed the Chase bank account of a Hinsdale resident and stole the $5,800 that was in the account some time between May 24, 2010, and June 14, 2010, though the victim only discovered the offense recently and reported it to police on Nov. 30.

The victim was not aware of the incident until the IRS contacted the victim regarding money he owed related to the closed account, police said. A police investigation revealed that after the account was closed, the $5,800 check from Chase was mailed to the former address of a family member of the victim. The case is still under investigation, police said.
