3 More Car Burglaries, $1,850 in Copper Pipe Stolen: Police Blotter

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 9

Driver Caught without License

Gerardo Rodriguez, 28, of the 6400 block of South Richmond Street, Chicago, was charged with driving without a valid license after a registration-check stop near the interesection of Ogden Avenue and Coe Road at 6:05 p.m., police said. He was released to appear in court.

TUESDAY, JAN. 8

Fraudulent Online Shopping

A complainant from the 300 block of Ridge Avenue reported at 5:40 p.m. two fraudulent online purchases made with her credit card information by someone in Florida, police said. The charges were for $75 and $273. 

MONDAY, JAN. 7

Nativity Set Damaged

A resident from the 100 block of Burlington Avenue reported at 9:38 a.m. that someone damaged a plastic nativity set on Jan. 2 on the complainant's property, police said. Those pieces damaged included Mary, Joseph, a camel and the manger. 

Copper Pipe Stolen from Construction Site

Approximatley $1,850 worth of copper plumbing pipe was stolen from a residential construction site in the 5600 block of Western Avenue sometime between Jan. 5 and Jan. 7, police said. There are no suspects.

3 Cars Burglarized in Same Neighborhood

Three unlocked cars within close proximity were burglarized during the overnight hours between Jan. 6 and Jan. 7, police said, likely by the same person. 

Two of the cars were parked in the 200 block of Grant Avenue. Police said a wallet containing more than $200, a $100 GPS device and $10 in change was stolen from one of the cars. Five dollars in change was taken from the other.

The third car was parked in the 200 block of South Prospect Avenue. A $100 GPS device and a $50 trailer hitch were missing, police said.

THURSDAY, JAN. 3

Attempted Fraud Reported

A complainant from the 0-100 block of Algonquin Road reported at 3:33 p.m. that someone hacked into the complainant's Gmail account, obtained banking information, and attempted to have a $19,000 cashier's check sent to an address in Santa Rosa, CA, police said.

The bank declined the request and alerted the victim, who police said suffered no monetary loss.
