2 Charged with Stealing Hot Dogs, Vodka from Jewel: Police Blotter

TUESDAY, AUG. 21

Hit and Run

Chi Cheng, 70, of the 300 block of Western Avenue, Clarendon Hills, was charged with improper backing and failure to give insurance information after he hit a parked minivan while backing his car out of a parking spot on Prospect Avenue near the railroad tracks at 4:24 p.m. and left the scene.

Donald Trump Phone Scam

A resident from the 300 block of Ridge Avenue reported at 5:47 p.m. that he or she had received approximately 40 calls from an unknown person who claimed to be from the FBI and said Donald Trump was trying to get in touch with the resident to give him or her money.

The resident suffered no money loss. Police advised the resident to not answer any more calls from that number and inquire with the phone company about having that number blocked.

SUNDAY, AUG. 19

DUI

Mateland L. Thompson, 31, of the 4900 block of West Concord Place, Chicago, was charged with DUI after he was observed to be under the influence of alcohol during a traffic stop on Route 83 near 55th Street at 3:35 a.m., and failed an ensuing breath test.

Thompson was charged with two counts of DUI, driving without a license and driving an uninsured vehicle. He was released to appear in court.

DUI

Peter D. Swon, 49, of the 500 block of Chase Drive, Clarendon Hills, was charged with DUI after police said he was observed to be under the influence of alcohol during a traffic stop in the 300 block of Holmes Avenue at 6:20 p.m. and failed a breath test.

Swon was charged with two counts of DUI and one count of illegal transportation of alcohol. He was released to appear in court.

Men Videotaping Kids

A Clarendon Hills resident from the 100 block of Hiawatha Drive reported at 3:36 p.m. seeing two unknown men videotaping area kids from a silver four-door car.

The car was gone when police came to the area. It was last seen heading westbound on Norfolk Street away from Hiawatha. Police said they will be on the lookout for the vehicle. 

Hot Dogs, Vodka Stolen

Johnny I. Martinez, 18, of the 10 block of North Warwick Avenue, Westmont, and Nicholas K. Van Dahm, 19, of the 300 block of south Lincoln Street, Westmont, were charged with theft at 7:25 p.m. after two packs of hot dogs and a bottle of vodka were taken from Jewel-Osco, 303 Holmes Ave.

Store employees told police that they saw the two taking the items. Clarendon Hills officers were already in the area and made the arrests. The two men were released on bond to appear in court.

Bike Seat Snagged

A $50 bike seat from a bike parked in the 100 block of Chicago Avenue was reported stolen at 8:52 p.m. There are no suspects.
