Normandy Remodeling Co-founder Jack Steindl Dies at 70

John “Jack” Steindl, co-founder and co-owner of died on Dec. 8, 2011, at the age of 70. 

Mr. Steindl and Reg Marzec founded Normandy Remodeling, formerly known as Normandy Builders, in 1979 with the goal of creating a better kind of home remodeling company for the Chicago area.  Normandy is a design/build remodeling firm specializing in additions, kitchens, bathrooms and large scale renovations.

“The remodeling industry has seen a lot of changes since Jack and I started Normandy back in the 70s,” Marzec said. “And while many of our projects are far more complex today than they were 30 years ago, and our company has grown in size substantially, not much else has changed. Jack and I were fortunate to have so many years working in an industry that we love, creating happy clients, working with an experienced staff, and doing it all with a positive and enviable company culture.”

Andy Wells, Mr Steindl’s son-in-law, joined the company in 1997 and became an equal partner in 2003.  The three owners enjoyed a strong and complementary working relationship for many years.

“In the past 32 years, Jack and Reg have built up an amazing wealth of customer goodwill and loyalty because they always treated the customer fairly, something that is not necessarily common in the remodeling industry,” Wells said.  “Jack’s generosity, honesty and integrity have contributed to the company’s success and will continue to influence our entire organization for decades to come.” 

Jack Steindl was husband to Phyllis Steindl and father to Amy L. (C. Bradley) Schubert, Rebecca T. (Andrew L.) Wells, and the late Elizabeth L. (David) Rickards. Grandchildren include Carly T. Rickards, Luke H. Schubert, John H. Schubert, Alexandra G. Rickards, Rachel H. Schubert, Jack A. Wells, Ian M. Wells, and Georgia F. Wells.
