Hinsdale Obituaries: June Essley Nissen, 96

The following obituaries were recently featured on Legacy.com:

June Essley Nissen, 96, a Burr Ridge resident formerly of Hinsdale, died Nov. 24 at her home. She was the wife of the late Robert Wallace Nissen, who was the stepson of famed Hinsdale architect R. Harold Zook, and the mother of Judith Freeman and Deborah Valentine. Ms. Nissen had six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Born in 1917, Ms. Nissen's family moved from Wilmette to Hinsdale in 1918. She studied at Stephens Jr. College and Northwestern University and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Ms. Nissen was an equestrian, golfer, and founder of The Travelers Market store in Hinsdale. Donations to the Hinsdale Humane Society are encouraged. An obituary for Ms. Nissen was published in the Chicago Tribune on Dec. 1.

Dorothy Marie Greiner, 92, a former Hinsdale resident who lived in Downers Grove, died on Nov. 27. She was preceded in death by her husband Ed and son David. She is survived by sons Joel, Dan, Mark, and John, grandchildren Paula, Paul, Chris, David, and Jenna, and great-grandson Timothy. Ms. Greiner lived her married life in Washington, IL, Pittsburgh, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Hinsdale. After her husband's death in 1987, Ms. Greiner moved to a senior living community in Downers Grove in 1992. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hinsdale for 50 years. Donations to Redeemer Lutheran Church and Bethel New Life in Chicago are encouraged. A memorial service will be scheduled for after the holidays. An obituary for Ms. Greiner was published in the Daily Herald on Dec. 1.

Ann Hill Poynton, 69, a former Hinsdale resident who retired to Flat Rock, NC, in 1998, died Nov. 21. Ms. Poynton was the wife of John, mother of John, and grandmother to Jack. She graduated from Milford High School, University of Cincinnati, and Columbia College. Ms. Poynton worked in corporate copywriting and advertising. A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 7 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Hendersonville, NC. Donations to the American Lung Association are encouraged. An obituary for Ms. Poynton was published in Chicago Tribune on Nov. 28.

Lila Self, 91, of Hinsdale, died on Nov. 28 in Hinsdale. Her obituary was published in the Lawrence Journal-World on Nov. 30.
