Woman's Rescue Leads to Medals of Valor for Hinsdale Firefighters

Firefighter-paramedics Daniel Majewski and Donald Newberry were honored last week for their efforts to rescue, revive and transport an elderly woman who had been trapped inside a burning Hinsdale house earlier this year.

Hinsdale firefighter-paramedics Daniel Majewski and Donald Newberry were each presented a Medal of Valor from the Hundred Club of DuPage County last month for their roles in the rescue of a 91-year-old woman from a burning Hinsdale home in February.

Majewski and Newberry were given the award based on their actions on the morning of Feb. 28, when they were among the first-responders to a report of a house fire in the 900 block of South Bruner Street. An elderly woman had been trapped in a rear room of the home and was unconscious when Majewski and Newberry located her, brought her outside, and revived her before transporting her to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, where she eventually made a full recovery.

The Hundred Club of DuPage County honored the two firefighters at its annual awards dinner on Oct. 30 at the Lisle Hilton Hotel. Three Naperville firefighters and a Westmont police officer were also honored.
