Hinsdale Central defeats Fremd 1-0, Wins Fremd Invitational

Goal: Jimmy Walker (Brandon Kim, Sam Johnson)

Goalkeeper: Shutout - Wes Bergevin 1st Half, Ethan Gama 2nd Half

Coach Wiggins on Fremd: “Always well prepared, well coached. I have known Steve Keller for a long time. I know what he tries to instill, and that is a well organized approach, playing the game the right way. They came into today with a good effort last night vs. a quality team from Peoria Notre Dame. We knew we just needed to stay with it going into the second half. We recognize the significance of getting a result vs. Fremd. It is a big accomplishment anytime you can top a quality program.”

Coach Wiggins on the second tournament championship in a week: “Our schedule is set up by design to create conditions that will prepare for a post season effort. I’m not sure we have ever accomplished this in the history of our program (winning 2 tournaments within a week / season), but our players have embraced the season thus far and have handled themselves incredibly well. The staff couldn’t be more proud of the boys.”

Coach Wiggins on the game winning goal: “Credit Jimmy Walker for the composure to get on the end of a great ball played across from Brandon Kim. I think even more significant was how the play developed from the middle third of the field. Sam Johnson did such a great job showing into the seam, turning and attacking the space in behind him. It was something we spoke about at the half. It was a play that developed because Sam had the field presence to turn and attack, vs. playing the safe pass back, and as a result, found Brandon going into space, who in turn played a quality ball for Jimmy to finish off. Great team effort and well executed.
