Celebrating 100 Years of Cook County Forest Preserves

Imagine Cook County without Forest Preserves. No place to hike, fish, picnic, or observe nature. No habitat for birds or wildflowers. Impossible, you say? It almost happened. This presentation will tell the dramatic story of how the Cook County Forest Preserves were saved and restored. It will also explain how two extraordinary people, Dwight Perkins and Jens Jensen, led this movement. The story of the Cook County Forest Preserves will be placed in a larger context, the movement 100 years ago to conserve forests throughout the United States.
