Temperatures are expected to hit triple digits during the afternoon.

Temperatures are expected to reach between 100 and 105 degrees Thursday and the National Weather Service (NOAA) has issued a heat advisory from noon to 8 p.m.

Cook and DuPage counties are both under the advisory, as are McHenry, Will, Kane and Lake.

In addition to the high temperatures, heat indexes are expected to reach the 105-110 degree range.

The National Weather Service advises that strenuous activities should take place outdoors only during the early morning and evening hours. Those people outdoors should wear loose-fitting clothes, drink plenty of water, and find shade if possible. And don't be afraid to check on neighbors.

"Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances," the advisory reads. "This is especially true during hot weather when the car interior can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes."
