Big Snow Expected; Hinsdale School Closed

Hinsdale Adventist Academy announced a snow day based on the National Weather Service's winter storm warning that will be in effect from 9 a.m. to midnight Tuesday.

District 181 has canceled all after-school activities and athletics Tuesday because of the snowstorm.

The Clarendon Hills Park District also posted cancelations on its Facebook page:

Tot Rock, Kid Rock, Afterschool Program and Afterschool Dodgeball at Prospect, Healthcare in Retirement, and Open Gym Basketball are all CANCELLED for today due to weather.

Kreative Kids and Sports Fundamentals will still meet this afternoon at the Clarendon Hills Park District Community Center.

The National Weather Service has brought the expected snow totals down to 4-8 inches Tuesday.

11:19 p.m. Monday

Hinsdale Adventist Academy has declared a snow day.

The school announced on its Facebook page that it will be closed Tuesday.

"We apologize for not sending texts, emails and phone messages earlier to alert you to the snow day tomorrow, we are having some technical difficulties," a post on the page reads. "See you all on Wednesday!"

8:33 p.m.

The National Weather Service has updated its winter storm advisorypredicting 7-10 inches of snow is possible.

Heavy snow is expected to begin late Tuesday morning and fall through early evening.

"Travel through O'Hare and Midway airports will likely be significantly affected by this storm," the advisory reads.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Chicagoland counties from 3 a.m. to midnight Tuesday and is predicting as much as 9 inches of snow could fall in some areas.

"Light snow is expected to spread across northeast Illinois tonight and become more intense toward daybreak Tuesday and persist through Tuesday evening," the warning for five counties including DuPage reads.

Six to 9 inches of snow are possible Tuesday, and wind gusts will reach 25 to 30 mph. 

Heavy snowfall is most likely late Tuesday afternoon, in time for rush-hour traffic. 

The National Weather Service forecasts the high temperature Tuesday will reach 32 degrees, and the night-time low will dip to 26.
