Green Infrastructure Work on Display in Hinsdale's Woodlands Neighborhood
The first of the project's three phases is nearly complete, and the resulting rain gardens and bioswales can be seen around the neighborhood.
Remember those green infrastructure improvements that were approved for Hinsdale's Woodlands neighborhood in 2011 after much public discussion?
Well the first of the project's three phases (each phase being a portion of the neighborhood) is just about complete, village engineer Dan Deeter told the village's Environment and Public Services (EPS) Committee last week.
Not only are the streets smooth and the curbs high, drive around the neighborhood and you'll see a number of rain gardens and bioswales along the roadway that are meant to absorb stormwater and direct it to natural underground seams.
Through the establishment of an SSA—a special taxing district that pays off bonds sold by the village to cover additional services or infrastructure improvements to a particular area—Woodlands residents are paying for 13 to 16 percent of the overall project cost.
