Five Things You Should Know for Thursday, July 7

The short week is half over and Patch has the information you need for Thursday.

1. The nice-day streak in Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills is set to continue Thursday. Weather.com is forecasting partly cloudy and mostly sunny skies throughout the day with a high temperature of 83 degrees and a low chance of precipitation. Overnight, skies will remain mostly clear and temperatures will cool off into the low 60s.

2. In Clarendon Hills Thursday, the Home Rule Research Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Village Hall. At the meeting, the committee will report on home-rule-related information requested at the last meeting and detail the next steps going forward.

3. The last seven days flew by; it's Uniquely Thursday again in Hinsdale. Performing at 6 p.m. in Burlington Park this week is On the House, an acoustic rock band that plays songs from artists like Lady Antebellum, Dixie Chicks, and John Mellencamp.

4. On Patch this Thursday morning is a blog post from party planner Barbara Gilleece on proper procedure for a wine tasting as well as a police item from Darien involving a Hinsdale man charged with drug equipment possession and suspected of stealing items from a parked truck.

5. On July 7, 1928, sliced bread was sold for the first time by Otto Frederick Rohwedder of Davenport, Iowa. I always figured "The best thing since sliced bread" saying had a little more than 83 years behind it.
