D181 Gifted Program, Downtown Traffic Study on Monday's Agendas

A busy Monday night features two school board and two Village of Hinsdale meetings.

The following are a few notable agenda items from Monday night's public meetings:

Community Consolidated School District 181 Board of Education, 7 p.m. at

Findings of the much-discussed District 181 gifted program evaluation will be presented to the board and public at Monday's meeting. According to agenda documents, which can all be found here, Dr. Tonya Moon, who led the evaluation, and her team from University of Virginia will discuss their findings in person.

There will also be a recommendation that the board create a task force made up of parents, teachers and administrators to develop a gifted program philosophy going forward and plan the implementation of Moon's recommendations. 

Zoning and Public Safety (ZPS) Committee, 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall

ZPS Committee members will vote on an item Monday night that would make the intersection of 1st and Garfield streets a four-way stop, after results are presented of a Hinsdale Police Department traffic study that was prompted by . 

According to the ZPS agenda documents, which can all be found here, crash and vehicle-volume data did not meet federal standards for additional traffic control, but the sight obstructions at the intersection that are not correctable and its pedestrian traffic were enough for the police department to recommend the new stop signs.

The victim in the December accident was hit when a driver steered around another vehicle that was stopped in the intersection, waiting to turn left. 

Hinsdale Township High School District 86 Board of Education, 7:30 p.m. at 

The board will continue the discussion on meeting protocol it began Jan. 9, .

The board will also hear an update on the district's special education program that will include faculty, staff, parent and student points of view.

Village of Hinsdale Parks and Recreation Commission, 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall

Commissioners will hear a report from department staff reviewing the cost of the 2011 Independence Day parade and event and proposing ways to offset costs and make the parade and event more economical.
